V.K. Murthy is best known for the magical B/W imagery he created in Guru Dutt’s films – Pyaasa (1957), Kagaz Ke Phool (1959), Sahib, Bibi aur Gulam (1962) and many others. Kagaz ke phool was India’s first cinemascope film, which won V.K. Murthy the Filmfare Best Cinematographer award. He also received the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Lifetime Achievement award in 2005.
